Members have asked for a list of wood supplier resources to be
published on the site. Of course we have all the usual well-known ones
such as Yandles, Axminster and Oscar Windebank which are listed
below, but I am sure members know of others who would be happy to
be advertised on our website.
If you know of any, please drop me an email to
webmaster@kaawc.co.uk and I will update the list.

V & C Supplies Desk – November 2022 UPDATE
In addition to the products shown in our October update we have been
able to source a number of Abranet abrasive sheets AND a supply of
120 grit ceramic abrasive belts suitable for the Sorby ProEdge sander.
We have also tested them on the Axminster Ultimate Edge sander on
which they also work just fine.
The advantage of using the ceramic belts over aluminium oxide and
Zirconium belts is that the ceramic belts will generate less heat. This
means there will be no distortion of the steel and it will do the job quicker.
They will also last much longer.
Ceramic belts are more expensive than the aluminium oxide and Zirconium
abrasive belts, but you do get what you pay for and if you have invested in
quality high speed steel woodturning tools it’s worth paying a little extra for
the ceramic abrasive belts.
120 grit is great for your regular sharpening needs but should you require 60 grit for
initial tool profiling please ask and we’ll get some in for you.
Following some recent changes to the Club Website, and to our logo, we have very successfully
launched a smart Polo Shirt that is available for sale to members.
It is a well made garment, in Navy Blue with our new logo (as used throughout the website)
embroidered in a contrasting yellow thread. In addition, we have also commissioned a
'standalone' embroidered badge that can be sewn onto a smock and/or a warm fleece that you
might have and possibly wish to wear to club nights!
The good news is that we are offering the shirt ( in a range of sizes from small to 6 XL) at a very
competitive price of £15 each. What's more,..... we are including one of the badges as a 'freeby'!!
Should want to buy further badges, we have them in stock at our cost price of £2 each.
We are not carrying a large stock of shirts, but certainly have a few of most sizes at the moment.
I will bring the stock of badges and shirts to club nights, and should like to buy one, come and find
me at the admin table.

interested in coming to a Club night to just see what
we do!

V & C Supplies Desk – UPDATE August 2023
We are overdue for an update to our part of the web site; no doubt most of you pop along to the shop on Club
nights but, just in case you haven’t for a while here is the latest news.##
Our basic consumables still include cellulose-based sanding sealer, Titebond wood glue and a range of quality
Norton hook & loop abrasives all at competitive prices. To those we have added ceramic abrasive belts for your
Sorby or Axminster tool sharpeners in a range of grits – 60, 120 and 240 grit – and to keep your abrasives from
clogging up we now have two sizes of disc, paper and belt cleaners made from crepe rubber.
CA Glue or Superglue, to use its most popular name, is now available from us in thin or medium viscosity 20ml
bottles and extremely competitive prices. No need to buy larger bottles that may go off before you finish using
them!
Chestnut products – yes, we are now able to offer a range of their popular products at a small discount – the
main benefit is you don’t have to pay delivery charges – how convenient is that?
We are currently featuring the popular Rainbow Spirit Stains together with Spirit Thinners in convenient 100ml
bottles. Want to experiment? We also offer a Rainbow Starter Kit which brings you all nine colours in 10ml
bottles PLUS a 10ml bottle of Spirit Thinners for diluting colours or for clean-up purposes.
Need standard wood stains such as Golden Oak etc? Ask and we’ll see if we can get some for you.
So far as wood blanks are concerned, you are probably aware our selection is growing. Along with our regular
Sapele and Oak blanks we can now have some nice Oak Burr, Californian Redwood with some nice grain
features, London Plane with some spectacular markings, Sycamore, green Ash and some green Cherry. When
we get green wood we seal the cut ends with PVA glue as soon as we cut the blanks. Other blanks are cut
from seasoned wood so only need sealing if you are going to store them for a while. Again, if there is some-
thing you would particularly like, let us know and we’ll see what we can find.
Why not pick up a catalogue from the shop or send us an email – it includes all the current prices.
For your convenience we are always happy for you to order ahead of the next meeting and we’ll set your order
aside ready for collection; just email us on:
woodturning.stuff@gmail.com
See you at the next Club meeting if we don’t speak earlier.
No mess, no fuss – one good turn deserves another!
V & C Supplies Desk – UPDATE September 2023
NEW FINISHING TOOL for CREATIVE WOODTURNERS
Ever wondered what to do with a piece of plain, featureless wood – lack of grain features or colour? You might have
thought of piercing patterns in the rim of a bowl or platter? A bit of pyrography perhaps? What about colour? Gently
graduated bands of colour maybe or using stencils, create some interesting shapes? You could use acrylic paints on
top of a sanding sealer or you could use stains and have your colours
penetrate the wood. You could use a brush and risk having the brush
marks show or you could spray your colours on. Not got a compressor and
air brush? We have a solution for you – a compressed air sprayer with
interchangeable bottles – so convenient and so affordable – like most of our
products, no mess no fuss. This just the right solution for applying our
Chestnut Rainbow Stains or other stains and paints.
We are now taking orders for the Preval air sprayer system that is now being
imported from the States and have a sample system to look at – just ask us at
Club night.
The Preval system comprises a simple, graduated bottle to hold your colour –
additional bottles available at reasonable cost – and the compressed air
canister which screws to the bottle and an optional trigger for ase of use.
A set of two canisters, bottle and trigger is priced at only £29.50.
The system uses the Venturi effect to suck up your colour medium from the
bottle and applies a fine spray to your work. With additional bottles you can
switch easily and quickly from one colour to another. You might also use a
bottle to apply sanding sealer thus sealing your stains without running the
risk of smudging your colours as you might with a brush. What could be
simpler? And, even if you do have a compressor and air brush, you might
find this a much quicker and easier solution for those little extras you want to apply to your finished work to give it
that extra zing.
Make your work stand out from the crowd by expressing your own creative talent. Check out our catalogue for prices
and ask to see the sample kit on our stand then place your order in person or by email and we’ll have it ready for you
at our next club night.
